Network resilience - keeping transport moving
We make sure the transport network in the West Midlands keeps moving. We call this network resilience. Network resilience covers all types of transport.
We look after some of the roads in the region to make driving easier. This includes managing the Key Route Network. This is a collection of the busiest roads in the West Midlands.
The Regional Transport Coordination Centre (RTCC) helps us manage disruptions to our network. We also monitor CCTV to keep people safe.
We run campaigns to tell people about major roadworks and events. This makes journey planning easier.
We help people travel more sustainably. We work with businesses and schools to do this through our Travel Demand and Engagement team.
We also lead a pilot project called Live Labs. This uses video technology to monitor congestion in the region.
Congestion Management Plan
We have a Congestion Management Plan. It explains how we’ll keep the West Midlands moving through improvement works.
We created this plan with:
- Highways England
- Network Rail
- local authorities
- transport operators
The plan will help us improve capacity on our transport network. It will help us build a more reliable, efficient network.
It will also manage demand by encouraging people to:
- plan ahead
- making changes to their journeys if needed
- use public transport wherever possible
The plan is part of the West Midlands Combined Authority’s Regional Road Safety Strategy.
