M6 J10

M6 Junction 10 Beam Lift

Ends: Ongoing

Last updated: 4 August 2021

What’s happening?

Walsall Council is working in partnership with Highways England to improve Junction 10 of the M6 motorway.

M6 junction 10 is of strategic importance within the Black Country and the wider region, it is on a busy route between Walsall and Wolverhampton.
The junction is often heavily congested, and this reduces the attractiveness of the local area for business and investment, including within the nearby Black Country Enterprise Zone.

M6 Junction 10 will be closed from 8pm Friday 6 August - Monday 9 August. See M6 J10 below for more information.

M6 Junction 10 Beam Lift

Highways England will be closing the M6 Junction 10 from 8pm Friday 6 August to Monday 9 August as part of M6 J10 improvement works. They will be constructing a new  bridge across Junction 10 of the M6. They will replace the bridge with a new four-lane bridge that will increase capacity and improve journey times through the junction.

To safely lift the bridge beams into place, they will need to close the M6 motorway in both directions between the Junction 10 exit and entry slip roads. During this time, traffic will be diverted up and over the roundabout.

Following the full weekend closure, they will need to continue works on the new bridge for up to 5 weeks from 8pm Monday 9 August. They will be using the same overnight closure between the exit and entry slip roads at junction 10 from Monday to Friday 8pm to 6am. This has been planned to avoid peak travel.
